A record player, gramophone or radiogram whose turntable is equipped with a stepped spindle on which several records, originally 10" or 12" 78 rpm records, and later 7" 45 rpm records, could be stacked above the turntable to be automatically dropped in succession to play. This could provide continuity with only brief interruptions through a work of duration exceeding the capacity of the records of the time. See Album.
