A keyboard instrument in which the sound is produced acoustically by passing air through pipes. The pipes are arranged in ranks of similarly sounding pipes and the organ may comprise many ranks, each producing a different sound.

In a traditional organ the air pressure might be produced by an assistant or two operating hand bellows. The higher pressure characteristic of the Cinema (theatre) organ is produced by an electric blower.
